Taj to manage three hotels in China
September 27, 2010

Whether on business or holiday, Indians will soon be able to enjoy all the comforts of home in China. India’s favoured hotel chain and one of South Asia’s largest hospitality groups the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) better known as the Taj Group of Hotels Resorts and Palaces has planned to take over management of three hotels in China.

According to Raymond Bickson, managing director and CEO of the company, IHCL has signed a management contract with its Chinese partners to manage the Temple of Heaven hotel in Beijing and Xiangshuiwan hotel in the Hainan Province. “We have a plan to set up another hotel in Shanghai,” said Bickson, adding that his company is very interested in China’s booming tourism market.

Marking China as an important new market the group was looking to enter, Bickson said the first hotel would be inaugurated in Beijing by the end of 2011.

China’s economic ascent and being India’s largest trading partner has attracted significant numbers of Indian businessmen followed by tourists into the Middle Kingdom. Besides food cooked in animal broth, Indians do still have many skirmishes about being in China. Hopefully, Indian hospitality in the heart of China’s tourist hubs would warm Indian bellies in China.
